Sarah was born in 1797 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place on February 19th, 1797 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Sarah's father was Edmund Bolton and her mother was Mary Davenport. She had six brothers and five sisters, named John, James, Robert, Sarah, Edmund, John, Elizabeth, Mary, Hannah, Nancy and Dolly.  She was the fifth youngest of the twelve children.
