Mary was born in 1794 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place on February 16th, 1794 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Mary's father was Edmund Bolton and her mother was Mary Davenport. She had six brothers and five sisters, named John, James, Robert, Sarah, Edmund, John, Elizabeth, Sarah, Hannah, Nancy and Dolly.  She was the seventh oldest of the twelve children.
