John was born in 1786 in Harwood and his baptism took place on February 5th, 1786 at Bradshaw Chapel.1  John's father was Edmund Bolton and his mother was Mary Davenport. He had five brothers and six sisters, named James, Robert, Sarah, Edmund, John, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah, Hannah, Nancy and Dolly.  He was the second oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 13 in December 1799 in Bolton.  His burial was on December 13th, 1799 at St. Peter's (Bolton).2
