Robert's father was Edmund Bolton and his mother was Mary Davenport. He had five brothers and six sisters, named John, James, Sarah, Edmund, John, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah, Hannah, Nancy and Dolly.  He was the fourth oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 71 in June 1860 in Harwood.  He was buried on June 13th, 1860 in Harwood.²
