Richard was born in December 1848 in Bolton.1  Richard's father was John Allen and his mother was Sarah Lever.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Allen and Sarah Carter. He had four brothers and a sister, named John, Joseph, James, Robert and Sarah.  He was the oldest of the six children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named James, Alice and Agnes.  He died at the age of 76 on September 25th, 1925.
