James' father was <unknown> and his mother was Sarah Lever. He had two sisters named Alice and Agnes.  He was the second oldest of the three children. He had six half-brothers and a half-sister, named Richard, John, Ottowell, Joseph, James, Robert and Sarah.  He died in 1843 in Little Bolton.¹
