Ann was born on January 7th, 1845 in Glen Ridley, Northumberland and her baptism took place on February 2nd, 1845 in Simonburn, Northumberland.¹² Ann's father was William Waugh and her mother was Mary Dodd. Her maternal grandparents were Edward Dodd and Isabel Barnfather. She had five brothers and five sisters, named John, Edward, William, Robert, Thomas, Isabella, Celia, Catherine, Jane and Barbara. She was the fourth youngest of the eleven children.
