Mary was born on August 19th, 1808 in Haughton, Northumberland and her baptism took place on October 9th, 1808 in Simonburn, Northumberland.¹ Mary's father was Edward Dodd and her mother was Isabel Barnfather. Her paternal grandparents were Edward Dodd and Mary; her maternal grandparents were John Barnfather and Jane Rowntree. She had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Edward, Jane and Ann. She was the second youngest of the five children.
