James Hargraves 
James was born in 1841 in Scarcroft, Yorkshire.1 James' father was William Hargraves and his mother was Susannah Coates. His paternal grandparents were John Hargraves and Mary; his maternal grandparents were John Coates and Ann Snell. He had six brothers and eight sisters, named William, John, Joseph, George, Thomas, Richard, Mary, Hannah, Sarah, Martha, Elizabeth, Jane, Emma and Eliza. He was the third oldest of the fifteen children.-
