Mary was born in 1752 in Otley, Yorkshire and her baptism took place there on July 26th, 1752.  Mary's father was Francis Mountaine and her mother was Mary Bodes.  Her paternal grandparents were Francis Mountaine and Margaret Dunwell. She had four brothers and a sister, named Francis, Francis, Joseph, John and Issabelah.  She was the oldest of the six children.
