John Coates

John was born in 1770 in Otley, Yorkshire and his baptism took place there on June 3rd, 1770.  John's father was William Coates and his mother was Elizabeth Petty.  His paternal grandfather was Richard Coates. He had a brother and five sisters, named James, Franceas, Ann, Sarah, Betty and Sarah.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.
