James Coates

James was born in 1767 in Otley, Yorkshire and his baptism took place there on August 23rd, 1767.  James' father was William Coates and his mother was Elizabeth Petty.  His paternal grandfather was Richard Coates. He had a brother and five sisters, named John, Franceas, Ann, Sarah, Betty and Sarah.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.
