John was born before 1817. John's father was Jesse Shipton and his mother is Julia Davis. His paternal grandfather is Peter Shipton and his paternal grandmother was Elizabeth Easton. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Francis, Joseph E., Jesse, William Riley, Dudley S., Mary Ann, Sarah, Julia and Sylvania. He is the fifth youngest of the ten children.General Notes
