Phoebe was born on October 3rd, 1725 in Guilford, Chester Co., PA. Phoebe's father was John II+ Beals and her mother was Sarah+ Bowater. Her paternal grandparents were John Beals and Mary Clayton; her maternal grandparents were John Bowater and Frances Corbet. She had three brothers and six sisters, named John III, Thomas, Bowater+, Sarah+, Lydia, Mary Ann, Prudence, Hannah and Rachel. She was the fourth youngest of the ten children.
