Lydia was born about 1739 in Frederick Co., VA, or Guilford NC. Lydia's father was John III Beals and her mother was Margaret Esther Hunt. Her paternal grandparents were John II+ Beals and Sarah+ Bowater; her maternal grandparents are William Hunt and Mary Woolman. She had four brothers and three sisters, named John IV, William, John H, William, Ruth, Hannah and Rachel. She was the second oldest of the eight children.
