Idonea was born about 1300 in Appleby, Westmoreland, England.  Idonea's father was Lord Robert de Clifford I and her mother was Maud de Clare.  Her paternal grandparents were Sir Roger de Clifford and Isabel de Vipount; her maternal grandparents were Thomas de Clare and Juliane FitzGerald. She had two brothers named Robert and Roger.  She was buried in Beverley Minster, Beverley, Yorkshire, England.

‌Idonea and Henry were married in a religious ceremony in 1314 in Yorkshire, England.  They had a son and a daughter, named Henry and Maud.
