TheRude, Count Of Anjou was born in 1043 in Anjou, France.1 TheRude, Count Of Anjou's father was Geoffroy II "Ferreol" Count of Gatinais and his mother was Ermengarde Countess & Gastinois d' Anjou. His paternal grandparents were Geoffroy I "Ferreol" Count of Gatinais and Beatrix de Macon Countess; his maternal grandparents were Ct. (Fulk) "the Black" Comte d' Anjou (Le Noir (the Black)) Foulques III and of Lorraine Countess of Anjou Hildegarde. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Ives (Ivo) de, Geoffroy III Count, Count Le Barbu, Hildegarde and De Gastinois. He was the youngest of the six children. He had eight half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Hugues Prince Of, Duke Of Rainault Henri, Robert Prince Of, Simon Prince O f, Henry De, Robert De, Simon De, Hughes De, Duchess Of Burgandy, Hildegarde Princess France Countess, Aldegarde De, Constance De and Hildegarde De. He died at the age of 66 on April 14th, 1109 in Anjou, France.2 General Notes

Fulk le Rechin, brother of Geoffrey the Bearded, who had at firstbeen contented with an appanage consisting of Saintonge to be taken in1062 by the duke of Aquitaine, took advantage of the general discontentaroused in the countship [of Anjou] by the unskillful policy of Geoffreyto make himself master of Saumur (Feb. 25, 1067) and Angers (April 4) ancast Geoffrey into prison at Sable. Compelled by papal authority torelease and restore him, he soon renewed the struggle, beat Geoffrey nearBrissac and shut him up in the castle of Chinon (1068). In order,however, to obtain his recognition as count, Fulk IV Rechin (1068-1109)had to carry on a long struggle with his barons, to cede Gatinais to KingPhilip I and to do homage to the count of Blois for Touraine. On theother hand, he was successful on the whole in pursuing the policy ofGeoffrey Martel in Maine; afterward destroying La Fleche, he received thePeace of Blanchelande (1081), the homage of Robert, son of William theConqueror, for Maine. Later he upheld Elias, lord of La Fleche againstWilliam Rufus, king of England, and, on the recognition of Elias as countof Maine in 1100, obtained for Fulk the Young, his son by Bertrade deMontfort, the and of Eremburge, Elias's daughter and sole heiress.
