RICHARD Patton Bailey 
RICHARD Patton was born about 1765 in Bedford County, Virginia.1 RICHARD Patton's father was RICHARD Patton Bailey and his mother was ELIZABETH Anne Belcher. His paternal grandparents were JAMES Bailey and LUCY SIMMS; his maternal grandparents were RICHARD D. Belcher and MARY Obedience Clay. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named REUBEN, John Payton, James, Micajah, Archibald, Elijah I., Henry, Chloe, Naomi and Sarah Ann. He was the third oldest of the eleven children. He died about 1854 in Mercer County, West Virginia. He was buried in Bailey Cemetery, Rock, Mercer County, West Virginia.2 1 General Notes

Shown on Wythe County deed as "son of Richard". Census records indicate he was born between 1767 & 1770. He was living at the time of the 1840 Census of Mercer County. Deed dated April 29, 1844 shows his heirs (Mercer Dd 2-90).
Lived on the Lake Shawnee road near Bluestone River. His home is now owned by Wesley O'Donnell family. He owned much land and was a great trapper. Buried in Bailey Cemetery at Rock at intersection
of Lake Shawnee & Wright Mtn Rd.
Richard is thought to be one of the first settlers of Rock, Virginia. He lived on Lake Shawnee Road, near Bluestone River. He was a farmer and trapper. He deeded much of his thousands of acres of land to his son Eli and all of their household goods in lieu of caring for them in their old age. Richard died at Rock, Virginia in Mercer County and was buried in the family cemetery, which was on his farm. He grave is unmarked.

side of Blue Stone at a place known by the name of the two baranche about one mile below
the mouth of Black Lick Creek.

and Clay's corner of 400 acres, say three white oaks in the Wych and Montgomery
County line near the upper falls, being part of a large survey of 500,000 acres granted
W. E. Nicholas 25 June 1795 and subsequently conveyed to James Hector as by deed recorded
in Tazewell County and by said Hector conveyed to said Bailey, 23 May 1831, etc.
