Catherine was born about 1438 in Of Powderham, Devonshire, England.1   Catherine's father was Sir Philip Courtenay and her mother was Elizabeth Hungerford.  Her paternal grandparents were Sir John Courtenay and Joan Champernowne; her maternal grandparents were Walter Lord Hungerford and Catherine Peverell. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named Sir William of Powderham, Sir Philip of Molland, Peter, Sir Walter, Edmond, Humphrey, Sir John, Anne, Elizabeth and Phillipa.  She was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.  She died in Shillingford, Devonshire, England.1
