Richard was born in 1340 in Modbury, Devonshire, England.1 Richard's father was Sir Thomas Champernowne and his mother was Eleanor de Rohart. His paternal grandparents were Richard Champernoun and Elizabeth Joan Valletort; his maternal grandparents were Roger De Rohart and Eleanor Lovel. He had two brothers and a sister, named Oliver, Henry and Cecilia. He was the oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 54 in 1394.1 General Notes
