Every source I've seen gives a different version of the genealogy at this point. There's a lot of confusion between Joan de Valletort and Joan Oakeston/Okeston. The best discussion I've seen is given by Burke, in The History of the Commoners, Vol II, page 271. Burke states that Richard Chambernon "married the heiress of Sir Alexander Okeston, by his wife, Joan, relict of Richard de Valletort." This Joan has no surname. In a footnote, Burke states that "This Joan, or Jone, is supposed to have been a concubine of Richard Plantagenet, Earl of Cornwall, King of the Romans." The "heiress of Sir Alexander Okeston" is not given a name by Burke, but he continues in the main entry, "By her, whom Edmond, Earl of Cornwall, calleth by the name of sister, in a grant made by him, dated 12th Edward I. he had a son and heir, Sir Richard Chambernon..." Edmond de Cornwall is a son of Richard de Cornwall by Sanchia, and a half brother of the lady in question. I will continue my research on this question. Any suggestions or corrections are welcome.
