Mary Catherine was born in 1847.1 Mary Catherine's father was John William Grimes and her mother was Julia Ann Garrett. Her paternal grandparents were John Grimes and Catharine Frederick; her maternal grandparents were Robert* Jackson, Sr. Garrett and Mary* Ann Clackler. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Robert Mason, James Shorter, Joshua English, John Franklin, William Bartley, Louisa A., Sarah Elizabeth, Julia Evaline and Martha Fanny. She was the oldest of the ten children.-
