Zachariah Kennedy was born in 1850 in Illinois.1 Zachariah Kennedy's father was James Combest and his mother was Nancy Bowmer. His paternal grandparents were Samuel D. Combest and Sarah Dick; his maternal grandparents were John Bowmer and Phoebe Goodman. He had seven brothers and a sister, named Samuel James, William Riley, Commadore Perry, Levi, James Wiley, John, Mathias and Polly Ann.1 General Notes

Little is known about Zachariah. It is assumed that he was born in 1850, following the 21 September, 1850 census, as his name is not recorded there. We know he was born before 1851, since his mother died in October of that year. He is listed in the 1860 census as being 10 years old and born in Illinois.
