James Wiley Combest 
James Wiley was born on June 24th, 1843 in near Oconee, Shelby County, Illinois.1 James Wiley's father was James Combest and his mother was Nancy Bowmer. His paternal grandparents were Samuel D. Combest and Sarah Dick; his maternal grandparents were John Bowmer and Phoebe Goodman. He had seven brothers and a sister, named Samuel James, William Riley, Commadore Perry, Levi, Zachariah Kennedy, John, Mathias and Polly Ann. He died due to pneumonia at the age of 84 on March 29th, 1928 in Oconee, Illinois.1 General Notes

James was six feet and one inch tall, with blue eyes, light hair and complexion when he joined the service during the Civil War. He served with Company C, 143rd Illinois Infantry Volunteers for 100 days from May 1864 to September 26, 1864. He was discharged at Matoon, Illinois.
James was a farmer.
James and his first wife had several children although only 2 of the names are known.
James Wiley lived in Illinois throughout his lifetime: in Oconee, Illinois from 1864 to 1874; Taylorville, Illinois from 1874 to 1884; Nakomis, Illinois from 1884 to 1906; and Peoria, Illinois from 1906 to 1912.
