Elzira was born on December 12th, 1836 in Kentucky.1   Elzira's father was Samuel D. Combest and her mother was Nancy Hammond.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel D. Combest and Sarah Dick; her maternal grandparents were John Hammond and Margaret Peggy Wilson. She had three brothers and seven sisters, named Aaron Wyatt, George Washington, Samuel Dick, Wiltha Ann, Mary Jane, Nancy, Margaret, Martha, Maranda and Sarah.  She was the third oldest of the eleven children. She had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named William Jasper, Joseph Newton, Martha Belle and Lucy Abigail.  She died at the age of 60 on August 29th, 1897 in Pulaski County, Kentucky (Cedar Point Cem).1
