Tulia was born in 1856.1 Tulia's father was Pleasant Halbert and her mother was Emily Buchanan. Her paternal grandparents were James Halbert and Elizabeth Smith; her maternal grandparents were John Buchanan and Hannah Buchanan. She had a brother and a sister, named Isaac Buchanan and Laura G. She was the second oldest of the three children. She had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named James C, John T, Pleasant W, William C, Martha A, Margaret C, Mary J and Emily Naomi.General Notes
