His paternal grandparents were Piers De Lutegareshale and Maud Lady of Costow de Mandeville; his maternal grandparents were Roger "The Good" 5th Earl de Clare and Maud de Saint Hilary. He had a sister named Hawise. He was the younger of the two children. He had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named William, Geoffrey, Warin, Maud FitzGeoffrey and Maud.
