Robert I Bruce of was born on July 11th, 1274 in Writtle, near Chelmsford, Essex, England.  Robert I Bruce of's father was Robert VII de Bruce and his mother was Marjorie of Carrick.  His paternal grandparents were Robert VI the Competitor de Bruce and Isabel de Clare; his maternal grandfather was Neil of Carrick and his maternal grandmother is Margaret Stewart. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Nigel, Thomas, Edward Bruce of, Alexander, Mary, Christina, Isabel, Maud and Margaret.  He was the fourth youngest of the ten children. He had a half-sister named Isabel.  He died at the age of 54 on June 7th, 1329 in Cardoss Castle, Dumbartonshire, Firth of Clyde,Scotland.  He was buried in Dunfermline Abbey, south-west of Fife, Scotland.
