William was born about 1260 in Of, Warren, Sussex, England.  William's father was Earl John I de Warenne and his mother was Alice de Lusignan.  His paternal grandparents were Earl William Plantagenet de Warenne and Countess Maud Matilda Marshall; his maternal grandparents were Count Hugh X de Lusignan and Isabella de Taillefer. He had a brother named William VI.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died on December 15th, 1286 in killed in a tournament at Croydon, Surrey, England.

‌William and Joan were married in a religious ceremony in June 1285 in Surrey, England.  They had a daughter named Alice.
