John was born in 1715 in Lower Darwen and his baptism took place on July 27th, 1715 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Blackburn).¹

Birth Notes

John's father was Edmund Howarth and his mother was Catherine Pickering. His paternal grandparents were John Howarth and Ann Howard. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, William, Ann, Lawrence, Alice and Ann. He was the oldest of the seven children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Edward, Jane and Mary.
