General Notes
The Subsidy Roll of 1523 names three Howareth Heads in Lower Darwen: Edmund, Peter and Richard Howarth
in Lower Darwen. Also William and Richard Howarth in Blackburn Township. Richard was the original govener of Blackburn Grammar School. Lawrence is said to descend from this family.
Lawrence Howarth "is said to be the son of Haworth of Haworth". About 1585, Lawrence Haworthe of Nether Darwyn," gave to the Parish Subscription to augment the Grammar School Endowment 20s."
Lawrence Howarth of Th'urcroft, gent., married Alice, daughter of Robert Holden of Pickup Bank and had issue, sons Peter; Thomas and Richard; also daughters Elizabeth, b.1601 and Jenita b.1603.
Lawrence and Alice were married. They had three sons and two daughters, named Peter, Thomas, Richard, Elizabeth and Jenita.
