William was born in 1768 in North Kelsey, Lincoln, England and his christening took place there on July 8th, 1768.  William's father was William Rack and his mother was Eleanor Lamin.  His paternal grandparents were William Rack and Anne Sommerscales. He had two brothers and seven sisters, named Mathew, Joseph, Ann, Mary, Isabel, Eleanor, Mary, Elizabeth and Eleanor.  He was the third oldest of the ten children.
