Irene was born on November 1st, 1924 in Orient, SD.  Irene's father was John  (Bill) William Gaspar and her mother is Veronica (Fron) Hardes.  Her paternal grandparents were Lampert Gaspard and Julia Meyer; her maternal grandparents are Anton Hardes and Sophia.  She had two brothers and three sisters, named Clarence, Vincent, Cecilia, Loretta and Dorothy.  She is the oldest of the six children.
