John , known as Bill, was born on February 14th, 1887 in Kinsley, IA.  Bill's father was Lampert Gaspard and his mother was Julia Meyer.  His paternal grandparents were Nicholas J Gaspard and Catherine Welter.  He had six brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Nick, Thomas, Michael, Bernard, Lawrence, Lucy and Julia.
