John was born in 1845.  John's father was Unknown (Father) and his mother was Dorcas Frow.  His maternal grandparents were John Frow and Ann Towl. He had a brother named James.  He was the older of the two children. He had five half-brothers and four half-sisters, named David, Henry, Mark, George, Frederick, Mary, Emma, Harriet and Ellen.
