Mary was born on July 30th, 1850 in Salisbury, Wiltshire and her christening took place on December 26th, 1850 in Saint Edmunds, Salisbury, Wiltshire.1 2  Mary's father was Thomas Hill and her mother was Charlotte Banger.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Banger and Lucy Browning. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Frederick, Henry, John, Alfred, Sarah, Rachel, Charlotte, Georgina and Elizabeth.  She was the fifth youngest of the ten children. She had two half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Thomas, Frank, Fanny, Mary, Kate, Maud, Theodora and Eliza.  She died at the age of 6 in September 1856 in Salisbury, Wiltshire.3
