Rachel was born in 1720 in Newton Toney, Wiltshire and her christening took place there on March 24th, 1720.1 2  Rachel's father was Joseph Girle and her mother was Sarah Reed.  Her paternal grandparents were John Girle and Joane Grace. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, Edward, Sarah, Hannah, Susannah and Jane.  She was the third oldest of the seven children. She had a half-brother named William.  She died at the age of 55 on January 18th, 1775.3
