William was born in 1709 in Newton Toney, Wiltshire and his christening took place there on February 2nd, 1709.1 2   William's father was Joseph Girle and his mother was Mary King.  His paternal grandparents were John Girle and Joane Grace. He had two half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Joseph, Edward, Sarah, Hannah, Rachel, Susannah and Jane.
