Jane was born in 1730 in Newton Toney, Wiltshire and her christening took place there on April 9th, 1730.1   Jane's father was Joseph Girle and her mother was Sarah Reed.  Her paternal grandparents were John Girle and Joane Grace. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, Edward, Sarah, Hannah, Rachel and Susannah.  She was the youngest of the seven children. She had a half-brother named William.
