Thomas was born in 1771 in Ford, Laverstock, Wiltshire and his baptism took place on June 9th, 1771 in St Andrews, Laverstock, Wiltshire.1   Thomas' father was Thomas Cannings and his mother was Ann Austence.  His maternal grandparents were Daniel Austence and Martha Amer. He had three brothers and two sisters, named James, Daniel, William, Ann and Betty.  He was the third oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 64 in 1835 in Ford, Laverstock, Wiltshire.  The funeral took place on March 29th, 1835 in Laverstock, Wiltshire.2 3
