Daniel was born in 1780 in Ford, Laverstock, Wiltshire and his baptism took place on December 10th, 1780 in Laverstock, Wiltshire.1   Daniel's father was Thomas Cannings and his mother was Ann Austence.  His maternal grandparents were Daniel Austence and Martha Amer. He had three brothers and two sisters, named James, Thomas, William, Ann and Betty.  He was the third youngest of the six children.
