Margaret was born in 1850 in Drax, Yorkshire.1   Margaret's father was Charles Brown and her mother was Sarah Brewins. She had two brothers and six sisters, named William, Charles, Anne, Mary, Jane, Sarah, Elizabeth and Emma.  She was the second youngest of the nine children.
