James was born on November 8th, 1881 in Northumberland England.  James' father was Mathew Comb and his mother was Jane Scott.  His paternal grandparents were Mathew Comb and Mary Crombie; his maternal grandparents were Alexander Scott and Jane Alexander. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Mathew, Richard, Alexander, Jane, Mary, Ann and Agnes.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 88 in December 1969 in Northumberland West Northumberland England.
