Alexander was born in 1884 in Tynemouth Co Northumberland England.  Alexander's father was Mathew Comb and his mother was Jane Scott.  His paternal grandparents were Mathew Comb and Mary Crombie; his maternal grandparents were Alexander Scott and Jane Alexander. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Mathew, Richard, James, Jane, Mary, Ann and Agnes.  He was the second youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 67 in March 1951 in Tynemouth Co Northumberland England.
