Margaret was born in June 1853 in Northumberland Wooler.1  Margaret's father was James Purves (Scotland Farrier) and her mother was Eleanor (Ellen) Hume (b Wooler/Berwick).  Her paternal grandparents were James Purves (Scotland Blacksmith) and Jane Morrison?; her maternal grandparents were William Hume (Ag Labourer) and Elizabeth. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Robert, James, John, Joseph, Jane, Jessie, Ellen, Bessie and Annie.  She was the oldest of the ten children.  She died about June 1906 in Holborn.2
