John's father was Peter Turner and his mother was Catherine Fotheringham Archibald.  His paternal grandparents were Peter Turner Sr. and Mary Russell. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Peter, Robert, William, George, Bryce, Frank, Annie and Mary.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  He died due to a medical problem at the age of 67 on May 7th, 1935 in Victoria, B.C..  He was cremated in Vancouver.^3 3
