George's father was William McMurran and his mother was Annie Mcintosh. His paternal grandparents were John McMurran and Agnes Robertson. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named John, James, William, Jonathan, Thomas, Hugh, Adam, McMurran, Alison, Jennie and Marion. He was the sixth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 48 on March 6th, 1930 in Falkirk.
