Ellen was born on November 25th, 1899 in Edinburgh and her baptism took place on October 27th, 1908 in Broxburn.¹²

Ellen's father was Robert Fairley and her mother was Mary Craig. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Fairley and Helen Thomson. She had four sisters named Annie, Allison, Margaret and Mary. She was the second oldest of the five children. She died at the age of 79 on November 28th, 1978 in Ontario.
