Reuben was born about 1765.  Reuben's father was Richard Tankersley and his mother was Mary Thornley.  His paternal grandparents were George Tankersley and Mary Longley Long. He had four brothers and a sister, named George, John, Richard, Peter and Mary Ann Polly.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children.
