Peter was born in 1768.  Peter's father was Richard Tankersley and his mother was Mary Thornley.  His paternal grandparents were George Tankersley and Mary Longley Long. He had four brothers and a sister, named George, John, Richard, Reuben and Mary Ann Polly.  He was the fifth oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 62 in 1830.
